Everyone needs a place that they can relax and enjoy some downtime when they get home. The place that people use to relax is an essential part of a person’s home life. With all the stresses of everyday life that can pull at a person, having a warm inviting place for comfort and relaxation is important for rejuvenation.
The rooms that people use for their personal downtime can vary, some people choose their living room, others in their den or family room. But for many people and couples especially, their bedroom is often the chosen room they take their down time in. If this is the case, there are many wonderful ways to decorate a bedroom to make it the most relaxing comfort zone in a home, condo or apartment.
One of the first steps to creating this haven is to set the tone with colors. In many cases, having a color theme is an important part of creating continuity and warmth. Color tones can set the mood of a room. Softer tones create a warm inviting feeling, while bold colors create an exciting mind challenging room. Both of these styles can be equally important for the person depending on their personality and what they consider important for their personal down time. Neutral tones allow the accent to be on furnishings instead of color.
However, one of the best rules for color no matter what color is the main theme is to acknowledge that the entire room’s color scheme should be focused around the primary room colors. Therefore if a room’s color is light blue than the accent colors accessories should have light blue as part of the color scheme.
Other complimentary colors can be added to upholstery and décor items. But there should be some continuity in color accessories so that they do not clash but compliment the main color theme. If the colors of the room do not blend well the feel of the room can change dramatically. Colors that seem to jumble all together or do not blend in harmony can make the room feel cold, or uninviting.
Great color accents can be obtained by color coordinating upholstery, headboards, curtains, bedding, and décor accessories like paintings, clocks, photographs, prints, vases, frames, and candles. Additional color can be brought in from not just the primary rug, but the accent rugs as well. Accent rugs can be placed on both sides of the bed and in the central part of the room as well for added comfort and flair.
For a room that is smaller, it can be a great help to open up the feel of the room by adding mirrors for accent and expansiveness. In general, mirrors can reflect a feeling of open space almost doubling the rooms feel. It is also important not to over clutter the room with too much furniture or furniture that is too big or too small for the room. This can significantly change the feeling of a room. If the furniture is too big the room will feel cluttered and unmanageable. If the furnishings are too small, the room can feel like an empty abyss. So furnishings should be appropriate for the rooms overall dimensions.
Another important aspect of a room is the bed itself. Gaining a plush feeling in a bedroom can be obtained by having a comfortable bed that offers support. In general terms mattresses over seven years old should be replaced. Beds that can expand comfort and add flair to a room include adjustable beds that can offer more than just a place to sleep but can double for a recliner as well since these beds adjust in the head, knees and feet area. They also offer a very distinctive look to a room, when the headrest position is changed. For smaller single person rooms, a daybed is also a great way to accent a room. This is because they double as a couch and a bed and can be the perfect comfort zone for both sleep and leisure. Headboards for any bed can be either upholstered, wood, or can be exchanged for fancy tiles or woodworking such as bookshelves to hold easy reading books.
